Sounds of California presents Cesar Castro "Jarochelo," a young master of the son jarocho music genre from Veracruz, Mexico.
Cesar was recorded playing the traditional son "Siquisiri" solo, with a group of his students, and with his band, Cambalache.
Sounds of California is an initiative by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage to document stories of music and migration in contemporary California.
Here's a short documentary I made for the Smithsonian's "Sounds of California" initiative, featuring Jarochelo Cesar Castro, a young master of the Son Jarocho music genre.
